Pre-Owned Tiffany & Co. Jewelry: Collections, Silver Care and Tips

October 13, 2026 3 min read By Vintage Designer Club

Pre-owned Return to Tiffany heart key necklace in 18K pink gold

Since its founding in New York in 1837, Tiffany & Co. has become one of the most recognised jewelry houses in the world. Pre-owned Tiffany is a smart buy: the designs are timeless, the quality is excellent and the price is often much lower than in the boutique.

The most popular collections

  • Return to Tiffany: the iconic heart and round tags engraved "Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York". A classic in sterling silver, also available in gold.
  • Elsa Peretti: organic, sculptural designs such as the Open Heart, Bean and Diamonds by the Yard, created by the Italian designer who began working with Tiffany in the 1970s.
  • Tiffany T: a modern, graphic line with a bold T motif, in gold and silver.
  • Paloma Picasso: expressive designs such as the Loving Heart and Olive Leaf.

Reading the stamps

Genuine Tiffany pieces are usually stamped with the brand name, often "T&Co." or "Tiffany & Co.", together with the metal: 925 for sterling silver, 750 or AU750 for 18-carat gold and PT950 for platinum. Designer pieces often carry the designer's name too. Want to know more about hallmarks? Read our jewelry guide.

Caring for sterling silver

Silver naturally tarnishes over time. That is not damage: a soft silver polishing cloth brings back the shine in minutes. Store your jewelry in a pouch or box, away from moisture and perfume, and wear it often, since regular wear actually helps prevent tarnish.

What to check

  • Clasps and chain links should close securely.
  • Light scratches are normal and can usually be polished away.
  • Check ring sizes and chain lengths in the product details.

Silver, gold or platinum?

Most pre-owned Tiffany pieces are made of sterling silver: affordable, timeless and easy to wear every day. 18-carat gold pieces are warmer in colour, do not tarnish and feel more substantial. Platinum is mainly used for engagement rings and diamond jewelry, as it is very strong and naturally white. If you wear jewelry daily and want minimal care, gold is the most low-maintenance choice.

Gift ideas from Tiffany & Co.

  • A Return to Tiffany heart tag necklace or bracelet: the classic Tiffany gift, recognisable at once.
  • An Elsa Peretti Open Heart pendant: subtle, elegant and suitable for every age.
  • A Tiffany T ring or bracelet: modern and graphic, beautiful stacked with other pieces.
  • A simple silver chain or bangle: easy to combine and a safe choice when you are unsure about style.

For rings, check the size carefully: Asian and European ring sizes differ. Our jewelry guide explains how to convert them.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Tiffany piece need its blue box or pouch?
The iconic blue box or pouch is a nice extra, especially for a gift, but it says nothing about authenticity on its own. The product page shows whether it is included.

Can I wear Tiffany silver in water?
Short contact with water is not a problem, but chlorine, salt water and perfume can speed up tarnishing. Take your jewelry off before swimming or showering.

How do I keep silver shiny?
Wear it often and polish it now and then with a soft silver cloth. Store each piece in its own pouch to prevent scratches. For other houses, see our guides to Bvlgari and quiet luxury.
